Small Birds of Red Rabbit Farm

While the parrots are happy to come close to the house, the really small birds nest and forage in the “messy habitats” we have designated for them around the farm and closer to Barrabaroo Creek running through our property. The big birds are easy to photograph - they basically hang about posing for the camera. These little ones, especially the Superb Fairy Wrens flit about with such speed and they are so small they are a real challenge. The only way to get a really good look at them is to capture them through the long lens of a camera (I’ve left some of my images pulled back to help you comprehend the scale, and even those images are zoomed in from where I was standing).

I am fascinated by their constant bustling going after small insects and their shrill little chirps. I thoroughly enjoy my early morning walks through the farm with camera and tripod in hand attempting to grab a peek at these adorable personalities.
