The Parrots of Red Rabbit Farm
There is a ridge of trees that run down the center of our property on the west side of the house. The parrots start flying into those treetops early in the morning just as the sun is peeking over the horizon to dry the dew off their feathers and preen. It’s a magnificent sight. So many colors, families, and personalities. I will never tire of watching how they begin their day. We have a large Acacia tree close to the house that they enjoy nibbling and of course the apple orchard. I do provide some quality seeds since there is so much less to eat in Cobargo than there used to be while we wait for the native trees and shrubs we’ve planted to grow enough to provide them with ample food sources. My favorite activity is hand-feeding the King Parrots sunflower seeds and having a chat while they chirp and chortle with me while they snack as we discuss the day.
