With permission from the award winning photographer Teangi Cee, I have artistically adjusted her beautiful image reflect the likenesses of Indie and Charlie. Indie was rescued before she even had fur and she came to live with me when she was about 8 months old. Raising her up to the point when she could find her way in the wild with the other kangaroos that frequent our property was a real gift. But her coming home, giving birth and raising her little boy Charlie while visiting me daily to show him off was special beyond words. The bond between kangaroo mothers and their bubs is absolute magic to witness.

Witnessing Indie give birth to her first baby, I was not only awestruck by the miracle of the moment, but also the fact that if Jackie hadn’t rescued her out of her mother’s pouch from the middle of the road (before she even had fur) and if Joanna hadn’t taken her in and cared for her until I was at the point when Max needed a buddy to grow up with — and then entrusted me with the remainder of her care: Charlie wouldn’t even exist today. This painting is of Charlie when he was just a little velvet baby at 7 months old, taking in the world from the comforts of Indie’s pouch.

While bright sunny days are beautiful, we all get anxious when we start going into a drought. Lack of water means food becomes scarce and wildfires possible. This is Indie’s little bub Charlie, he would have been almost a year old when he experienced his first big rain storm outside of her pouch. He was soooo wet! and so cute with his extra dark hands and feet, not to mention the dark spots on his face from being caught in the storm. The look on his face of “what was that?!” after the storm passed says it all.

Holding her little one tight to ensure it doesn’t fall out of the tree while they dream. Habitat loss is the biggest threat to this endangered marsupial so we are starting local, planting the right kinds of eucalyptus for our locals on the protected property that is Gentle Valley in Cobargo.

Baby Ringtail Possums leave their mother’s pouch after 7 weeks and then ride on their mother’s back until they are weaned at about 6 months. This particular mother is currently raising triplets here at Red Rabbit Farm.

While on Safari in Kenya, our spotter noted that he herd of Elephants were beating the bushes because the must know there are lions in area. So we circled back and discovered a Lioness with two cubs taking shelter from the hot African sun. It was apparently bath time for one of her twins. We sat quietly and watched and with my long telephoto lens I was able to capture some dark shots. The kind of photos that recall a moment of a memory, but are too dark to do much else with — but create a painting. I love this painting, not only because bath time is such a beautiful moment every mother shares with her baby, but because I was trying a slightly looser style of water colour painting that I believe was quite successful. This piece will no doubt inspire a subtle shift in my future paintings, making it extra special.

Under her watchful gaze, her children feasted with exuberance on the antelope ten times their size. I have no concept of how far she had to drag that food to them, but she was full of pride. We watched as the little ones bounced around in delight and repeatedly, as needed, she would gently drag their feast back into the shade of the big tree.
It was only when the the little ones had eaten their fill that she began looking after her own hunger while the kids licked each other clean. Eventually she joined them at the base of the tree and stretched out in contentment. Within seconds her two cherubs were there for cuddles.
I so enjoyed reliving this story while painting “Devotion” for my Mother’s Love Collection.
It’s heartbreaking to think how endangered these Cheetahs are. 25% of the proceeds from both the original and prints will be donated to Action for Cheetahs in Kenya.

Leo is the Alpha male of our resident mob at Red Rabbit Farm and the father of Indie’s baby. A more handsome, gentler mob leader you would be hard-pressed to find. In spending time with Indie, Leo has become quite comfortable around me. One day when Indie had come into the house, Leo simply followed through the open door!

I’ve spent hours and hours watching the beautiful Miss Indie sleep and dream. What is she dreaming about? I can’t help but wonder and imagine.
Indie was orphaned in November 2021 when her mother’s life was taken in a car accident. She came to Red Rabbit Farm in March of 2022 when she was nine months old. Now a mother of her very own little bub she lives amongst the wild mob, but visits me almost every day.

We named this little wallaby Waterlily, her little turned up nose and tiny stature sets her apart from the rest of our wallaby mob. Always brave for her size, this little one is now nurturing her own baby.

There’s something about a baby koala, they are so gentle and cuddly, we all want one. Our koalas are endangered due primarily to loss of habitat. Locally we are doing our part in Gentle Valley, the conservation property bordering our Red Rabbit Farm by replacing the trees lost in the fires of 2020 with those that our Koalas eat and sleep in.

King Parrots often mate for life and typically travel as a family. This little lady comes to our house two times a day with her husband. He arrives first and she follows. They sit together closely as they eat and I just love how protective he is of her.

When on the ground, Galahs waddle around like Charlie Chaplain and often come across as clumsy with their goofball antics, but their soft pastel pink and grey coloring makes them appear as the most feminine of the parrots. This male Galah is fluffed up from preening himself early one the evening, ready for an evening out with his mate.

The Rainbow Lorikeet – they really are a rainbow of color and there’s nothing like a flock of them swooping into our apple trees. Their shrill chirp can be deafening. When on the ground, they hop around like little kangaroos - so befitting of an Australian bird. But most of all, they are fierce, they will go head to head with the other parrots, no matter the difference in their size. They are a force to re reckoned with.

In Remembrance - not of what’s been lost, but the many lives that have been saved by the Cobargo Wildlife Sanctuary. This is Millie, the gentle Eastern Grey Kangaroo of the Cobargo Wildlife Sanctuary, relaxing on the hillside as the sun begins to set. She was a beautiful soul and loved by many.

Of all the Red-Necked Wallabies on our farm right now, this little guy has the biggest personality. He is a joy to watch as he explores this little corner of the world now outside of his mother’s pouch. He’s impish, curious and playful. Always testing his boundries but at the same time, so gentle & loving.

I love watching the Corellas when they visit as they are mischievous and playful. When Carl the Corella thinks there should be more seed in the bowl hanging from one of our trees, he will pry open one of the chain links and then jump on the bowl until the chain pops apart and the bowl tips any remaining seed husks out. He and his partner then fly to a nearby tree and watch for me to put it all back together and add more seed. I swear he is grinning with satisfaction at how well he has trained me.

The little Grey Fantails dance around nipping up small insects that they snap up mid-air. With its yellow belly, this tiny bird was picture perfect amongst the Indian Shot flowers in our garden one summer morning.

There’s nothing like that over-the-shoulder look from an Australian King Parrot. It’s that’ bright yellow eye that always looks so happy and during mating season his bright red head feathers look like velvet. But holding a wild King Parrot in your hand when he has come to visit for some sunflower seeds, while looking into his very kind eyes is a most special experience.

I love how the male King Parrot comes ahead of his spouse confirming safety and availability of food. He then calls for her to join him with a soft high series of little chirps. She comes and they eat together for a little while, often making what sounds like little humming noises to each other as they converse. He then announces he’s leaving and flies off to sort out their next meal while she continues to feed until she hears him calling again.
